A Study on the Job-Satisfaction of Nurses in Oriental Herbal Medicine Ward


Abstract
There are many Oriental Herbal Medicine hospitals in Korea, however, it is very hard to find studies focused on nurses who has been working in that new nursing setting.
Oriential herbal medicine is such a traditional way of treating diseases in majority of Koreans. Moreover, scientific approach to the oriental herbal medicine and the attempt to communicate with western medicine has been tried with lots of accomplishment, which contributes the increase of oriental herbal medicine hospital all over the country.
With the increase of oriental herbal medicine hospital, demand of nursing in that setting also would increase. Therefore, nursing in oriental herbal medicine setting needs to be studied in terms of theory, knowledge, skill, and the nurses¢¥ role & status in that setting. For the first step of trial to those studies, job-satisfaction of nurses in oriental herbal medicine hospital had been tested in this study.
Twenty five nurses who work in oriental herbal medicine and fifteen nurses who work in western medicine were compared.
It is found out that the setting itself, that is oriental or western medicine is not a variable which affects nurses job-satisfaction. And continuing education on practical and scientific subjects and nursing administration turned out to be the most important concepts contributing to the nurses job-satisfaction. Thereby systemic education plan and nursing administration need to be studied to develop nursing in oriental herbal medicine as one part of nursing as a whole.
